I have written Mom a weekly letter since our move to Saskatoon in 1988. An almost 30 year old habit is hard to break, so I have continued to write to Mom since her death on September 6, 2017.
These letters are my thoughts about life, loss, missing Mom and moving on since her death. And a little bit about rabbits too.
The last seasons I spent with Mom were interspersed with small but joyful moments when her friendly, neighborhood rabbits came to call. I think they enjoyed watching her as much as she (we) enjoyed them. I'll never spot a rabbit without thinking of Mom. So many things bring Mom to my mind.
So I will continue to write to Mom. My promise to her was this:
I found it among all the cards, letters and gifts she saved throughout her life time. The gifts I gave to Mom have found their way back home to me. Those gifts that I thought were so tacky at the time? They aren't half bad. I'm glad I gave from my heart more often than I gave from my bank account. It is the little things that mean so much in the end.
